NASA Solar Steam
NASA Solar STEAM at SIU was a major educational and outreach initiative held at Southern Illinois University Carbondale during the total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024. SIU was designated as the NASA Eclipse Headquarters for the 2024 eclipse. The university collaborated with NASA to host NASA TV’s live broadcast, conduct scientific experiments, and promote eclipse-related education.
The event was part of SIU’s broader efforts to engage the public and students in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics during this rare astronomical event. Students, including those in media, communication, art, and science programs, were deeply involved in: Designing event materials and visuals, Running livestreams and media coverage, Supporting NASA’s educational goals, Creating eclipse-themed art and merchandise.
